How to convert audio to a lyric video

  1. 1

    Drop in the audio file

Upload the MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG you want to convert. A bounce from your DAW works as well as the master.

  2. 2

    Let Capify write the lyrics

The vocals are transcribed and each word is timed to when it is sung. Nothing to type, and no timestamps to set by hand.

  3. 3

    Choose how it looks

Pick a font, a text animation and a background. Use one of 53 animated backgrounds, your cover art or your own footage, and add one of 17 visualizer styles if you want one.

  4. 4

    Export the MP4

Play the whole video back in the browser first. When it looks right, export 1080p in 16:9 or 9:16. Full-length exports need a paid plan.

What happens between the MP3 and the MP4

A plain format converter changes a container. Turning a song into a lyric video needs the words first, so the first job is transcription. Capify listens to the vocal, writes out each line, and gives every word a start and end time.

Those timings drive the animation. A word appears, highlights or slides in at the moment it is sung, so a fast verse moves quickly and a held note stays on screen. If a word lands early, you drag it on the timeline and the video follows.

The audio also drives the picture. Animated backgrounds and visualizers read the song frame by frame, so a drop hits harder than a quiet bridge. Then the whole thing renders to a single MP4 at 30 frames per second, with your original song as the soundtrack.

Only need the words? The lyrics from audio page covers downloading the transcript as a TXT or SRT file.

TikTok, Reels and Shorts

9:16, 1080 × 1920

Song to lyric video, with or without a visualizer

Once the lyrics are transcribed, a carousel of templates opens on the video, playing your own song. Pick one, then change as much or as little as you like.

Start from a template

Each template sets the font, colours, text animation and background in one go. Swipe through them on your own lyrics before you commit.

Audio to lyric video questions

How do I convert an MP3 to a lyric video?

Upload the MP3 in the editor on this page. Capify transcribes the vocals, times each word, and lays the lyrics over a background. Pick the look you want, play it back, and export the video as an MP4.

Is the audio to lyric video converter free?

You can upload a song and preview the full lyric video for free. Exporting the full-length MP4 needs a paid plan, and the plans are listed on this page.

What file does the converter output?

An MP4 encoded with H.264 at 30 frames per second, which plays on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and almost any phone or editor. Exports are 1080p. Creator Pro adds 4K.

Which audio formats can I convert?

MP3, WAV, M4A and OGG, up to 15 minutes long and 300 MB in size. For a FLAC or AIFF master, export a WAV from your DAW first.

Do I have to type the lyrics in?

No. Capify transcribes them from the vocal. If you already have the lyrics written, paid plans can paste them in with Add Lyrics, and Capify times your words to the song.

Can I fix lyrics that came out wrong before I convert?

Yes. Every line sits on a timeline in the lyric editor, where you can retype a word, split a line, or drag a word to move its timing. Without a plan you can edit the first five lines.

Can I make a vertical lyric video for TikTok?

Yes. Switch the project to 9:16 and the export is 1080 × 1920, the size TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts expect. Switch back to 16:9 for a YouTube upload.

Can I use my own background?

Yes. Upload a photo, your cover art or a video clip as the background, or pick one of the 53 animated backgrounds. Each animated background has a reactivity slider that makes it pulse with the music.

Can I convert the lyric video to MOV, WebM or GIF?

Capify exports MP4. If you need another format, run the file through the free Capify video converter, which converts MP4 to MOV, WebM, MKV or GIF in your browser.

Can I convert a song longer than 15 minutes?

Not in one piece. The upload limit is 15 minutes, so trim a long mix or a DJ set into sections and convert each one as its own project.

Is the converter a separate tool?

No. It is the same Capify editor that runs on the homepage. This page is for anyone starting from a finished audio file who wants a video file back, with the lyrics written and timed for them.
